The name epiStoria blends two key ideas ‘epi,’ derived from epistemology, the study of how scientific discoveries are made and ‘storia,’ representing both the history of scientific discoveries and the power of stories.

 

epiStoria is a collection of engaging narratives of scientific discoveries that draws  insights from educational frameworks of nature of science (NOS) and meaning-making frameworks from cognitive psychology.  Each story of discovery emphasizes how scientists worked -- their curiosity about the world, their persistence amid the rejection of their ideas, their innumerable setbacks before their eventual breakthroughs. By weaving in the social and cultural contexts along with the science, the stories reveal the depth and significance of each discovery.
